ICSEE 2020 Keynote Speakers
Prof. C. Y. Chung, Fellow of IEEE, University of Saskatchewan, Canada
Speech Title: Efficient Uncertainty Modeling for Optimal Planning and Operation of Modern Power Systems (Click for Abstract)
Dr C.Y. Chung is a Professor, the NSERC/SaskPower Senior Industrial Research Chair in Smart Grid Technologies, and the SaskPower Chair in Power Systems Engineering in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada. He is a prominent leader for advancing academic activities and applied research in power systems engineering development in the province of Saskatchewan. He is now leading a research team, supported by SaskPower and NSERC of Canada, to conduct cutting-edge and long-term smart grid research for SaskPower and address critical technical issues associated with smart grid technologies and their applications to real power systems. He is a Fellow of IEEE, EIC, IET and HKIE. He is also an IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer and a member of IEEE PES Fellow Evaluation Committee.
Dr Chung received the B.Eng. degree (with First Class Honors) and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China, in 1995 and 1999, respectively. He has worked for Powertech Labs, Inc., Surrey, BC, Canada; the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada; and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China. His research interests include smart grid, micro grid, renewable energy, power system stability/control, planning and operation, applications of advanced optimization methods, power markets and electric vehicle charging. His research work has not only generated 3 US patents, 2 book chapters and over 150 international journal papers, mostly in well-respected IEEE transactions and IET journals, but has also resulted in successful transference of two new commercial software packages developed for power system analysis. Software package “Small Signal Analysis Tool (SSAT)” developed by him is now being used by over 80 power companies and nearly 90 universities worldwide. He has provided consultancy services to both government agencies and well-known private companies.
Dr Chung was the Member-at-Large (Smart Grid) and Member-at-Large (Global Outreach) of IEEE PES Governing Board and also the IEEE PES Region 10 North Chapter Representative. He was the Past Chairman of the IEEE Hong Kong Section, IEEE Hong Kong Joint Chapter of PES/IAS/PELS/IES and IET Hong Kong PES. He was the General Chair of IEEE EPEC2017 and IEEE PES APPEEC2014, Co-Chair of IEEE TENCON2015, IEEE PES APPEEC2013 and IEEE ICHQP2012, Vice-Chairman of IET APSCOM 2015 and IET APSCOM2012, Technical Chairman of IET APSCOM2009, and Honorary Secretary of IEEE DRPT2004 and IEEE IAS 2005 Annual Meeting.
Dr Chung is currently a Senior Editor of “IEEE Transactions on Power Systems”, a Vice Editor-in-Chief of “Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy”, a Subject Editor of “IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution”, an Editor of “IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy”, and “IEEE Power Engineering Letters”, and an Editorial Board Member of “CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems” and “Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems”.
Prof. C. K. Michael Tse, Fellow of IEEE, City University of Hong Kong, HongKong
Speech Title: Modelling and Analysis of Cascading Failure in Power Systems (Click for Abstract)
C. K. Michael Tse obtained the BEng(Hons) and PhD degrees from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is a Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering with City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and before joining CityU in October 2019, he was with Hong Kong Polytechnic University where he served as Head of Electronic and Information Engineering from 2005 to 2012. His research interests include power electronics, nonlinear systems, and network applications. In 2005 he was elected IEEE Fellow, and in 2009 he was appointed Chang Jiang Scholars Chair Professor. Prof. Tse received numerous research and invention prizes including IEEE Transactions Best Paper Prizes, Gold Medals at Geneva International Invention Exhibitions and Grand Prize at Silicon Valley International Inventors Festival. He was conferred honorary professorships by a few Australian and Chinese universities and was awarded distinguished fellowships by a few Australian and Canadian universities. He serves/has served as Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II, IEEE Circuits and Systems Magazine, as Editor for a few other journals, and as member of a few IEEE institute-level committees including Fellows Selection Committee. In Hong Kong, he serves/has served on panels of Hong Kong Innovation Technology Fund, Research Grant Council and ITC-ESS and on Quality Education Fund Committee of HKSAR Government, and is a board member of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
